Don't stray off the path!

Be careful when you are walking through the woods – a big bad wolf may be watching you!
Robins and Ducklings have been reading a great adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood, called 'Little Red'. It's a great version of the story with some intriguing adaptations from the original. There are still all the key features of the story, such as a child – Little Red is a boy in this story – going to visit his grandmother, a mother who warned her child not to stray off the path when they are walking through the spooky forest, a big bad wolf who is feeling peckish and spots the main character, and all the other developments you would expect from this classic traditional story. Without giving too much away, grandma does get eaten by the wolf, but it is the way that she is rescued that is the real twist to the story – well worth reading if you can find a copy. Robins and Ducklings have been engaged in a variety of exciting activities based around the story, such as building their own small world area to retell the story, making a picture of a big bad wolf using magnetic 2-D shapes and some of the children have even made their own finger puppets of Little Red. There was an interesting range of reactions when we tried some ginger beer (non-alcoholic of course!), this drink being an integral part of the retelling of the story. Robins and Ducklings also produced their own healthy version of a drink - perhaps the big bad wolf could get five a day this way! Overall, Robins and Ducklings really enjoyed this traditional tale with a twist.
