Owls visit Hams Hall Education Centre
Owls visited Hams Hall today to consolidate their learning about rivers so far, add to their learning with new knowledge and to study the River Tame.
Children named features of a river such as the source, mouth, meander and ox-bow lake. They also explored river wildlife such as kingfishers, otters and sand martins. Children were exposed to some new knowledge about erosion and deposition which causes meanders and eventually an ox-bow lake.
After this, children had a go at making a scale model of a meandering river and a straight river to compare speed of the water before going down to the riverside to study the river's flow rate and to create riverside sketches.
