Safer Internet Day 2025

Today is Safer Internet Day 2025.
Children at Manor received an extended assembly on a range of key areas based on e-safety. Owls Class also took part in a nationwide BBC lesson where they took part in 3 activities to help be aware of, and spot, potential online scams as well as how to create a strong password. Below is a little more information, helpful links for parents and a handful of pictures.
During the whole school assembly (minus Robins Class) children learnt that they should THINK before posting anything online, including videos, pictures and online messages/texts. THINK stands for:
T - is it TRUE?
H - is it HELPFUL?
I - is it INSPIRING?
N - is it NECESSARY?
K - is it KIND?
Another important topic discussed in the assembly was AI (artificial Intelligence). Children looked at what it is, how it can be used and how to spot it (at this stage). We discussed that some pictures online are now AI generated and children were shown the picture below of the child on their laptop. This is AI generated and although at first glance it seems normal, when you zoom into the laptop, vase and his fingers, it becomes obvious that something isn't quite right. As AI improves at an alarming rate, it is becoming increasingly hard to spot AI and, as a result, fake videos and pictures are becoming very convincing - something children (and adults) need to be very aware of in the coming years.
The final key topic was scams, including what they are, what their aim is and how to spot & report them. Children saw a range of potential online scams, messages and pop-ups that may occur on their/your devices at home. Children worked together to spot what was wrong each time and what to do about it (report and block).
After the assembly, Owls Class took things a little further and took part in a live national lesson on the BBC. There were 3 activities based around scams and overall safety online which all Owls Class children have bought home to share with you.
