Happy Diwali!

Robins and Ducklings have been learning all about the Hindu festival of Diwali – the festival of light.

Robins Ducklings have really enjoyed learning all about the traditional Hindu celebration of Diwali – the festival of light. The main focus for our learning revolved around the traditional story of Rama and Sita. This is the story of how Rama rescues his princess bride, Sita, from the 10-headed Demon, Ravana. To finally rescue Sita, Rama enlisted the help of Hanuman, the monkey King. You will be able to see from some of the photographs that some children successfully built fantastic Lego bridges to get from the land to the island where Ravana held Sita captive. One of the most popular activities in the classroom linked to this topic of learning was making our own diva lamps using air-drying clay. These were decorated before adding a tea light. This activity links to the end of the Rama and Sita story where people in the countryside light lamps and lanterns to guide Rama and Sita back to their home. This part of the story is what gives the festival its name – the festival of light. There was lots of fantastic learning that took place during this topic – well done, Robins and Ducklings!
