Robins and Ducklings have been enjoying the classic children's story, 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak. It's a lovely story about how a boy's imagination takes him to a fantastic, far-off place. The children have already created some very imaginative pieces of artwork, built bridges, walkways and traps for the Wild Things in the garden area, and found items beginning with the phoneme 's'. Apparently, according to Tango and Bob, one of the Wild Things is called Sam, hence our focus on this letter. Sam must have popped into class during the previous weekend, as we found some rather large footprints in the classroom on Monday morning and a rather large bite taken out of one of our class signs! But we haven't seen any sign of Sam or any other Wild Thing since, although some children were searching the garden area with magnifying glasses. They did find some clues. For example, some scratches in the tree trunk and an unusual looking feather on the ground. Very mysterious... Perhaps we'll see a Wild Thing this week!
